Undergrounding is one of the tactics Flordia Power & Light Company (FPL) deployed to improve grid reliability and reduce outage times after severe weather events. Nearly 50% of FPL’s 68,000 miles of distribution power lines are now underground. On average, customers served by underground main power lines tend to have fewer outages compared to overhead main power lines.
This has only reinforced the company’s stated position of building America’s strongest and smartest energy grid while keeping customer’s bills among the lowest in the country.
